Dean's Welcome

Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the UNH College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS)

Joseph C. Klewicki, Dean of the UNH College of Engineering and Physical SciencesCEPS is, at heart, a service organization. Our goal is to develop human potential through education. Participation in research is an important part of that education. Our small size combined with our status as a top-tier recipient of federal research funding lets our students work face-to-face with first-class researchers to solve some of the most pressing problems facing the world today. And because UNH is a land-, sea- and space-grant college, that work is happening everywhere from the deepest ocean, to active volcanoes, the upper atmosphere and outer space.

Interdisciplinary research and collaborative engineering - so integral to success in today's high-tech industries - are hallmarks of a CEPS education. We are the only school in the New England to combine physical sciences and engineering in the same institution. This allow our students to explore a variety of integrated science and engineering disciplines to discover their own career path - from chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, mechanical, and ocean engineering to chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, mathematics (including math education) materials science and physics. Our close partnerships with government agencies, private industry and other colleges within and outside UNH give CEPS a dynamic curriculum that keeps pace with the cutting edge of science and technology.

CEPS is committed to excellence in its facilities as well as in education. The completed Kingsbury Hall renovation and expansion project provides the college new student project space, a modern lab wing and high-tech classrooms. And through the KEEP-NH initiative, supported by the state, private industry and individual donors, all the College's buildings will be similarly updated in the coming years.

CEPS students learn by doing, through senior projects and research, summer employment, student groups and the International and Undergraduate Research Opportunities programs (IROP and UROP), or through a semester abroad in Hungary or Scotland. Together with our faculty, they are making a difference in such critical areas as global warming, homeland security and alternative energy. Come discover which CEPS degree program is right for you.
