Portsmouth Harbor ObservatoryThe College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) is a world-class college with top-tier research in environmental science, space science, and engineering programs.  Along with eight other universities UNH can make the claim of having a land, space and sea grant status. A prestigious status that proves beneficial to our ever growing dynamic research environment and our ability to attract external funding.

The faculty’s greatest pride however, is their one-on-one relationships with their students.   Students are fostered to reach their highest aspirations, making their UNH experience a priceless commodity.  Undergrad and graduate students have the opportunity to work with faculty who have obtained niches of extraordinary high national and international research capabilities.

These photos were taken at the Portsmouth Harbor Observatory, where in the past year, a team from the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center (CCOM/JHC) (Research Engineer Glenn McGillicuddy, Research Professor Lloyd Huff, CCOM Director Larry Mayer, Research Assistant Professor Tom Weber, and graduate students Val Schmidt and Michelle Weirathmueller) has begun the development of a small-scale oceanographic observatory at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor (between New Castle Island, NH and Kittery Point, ME).  This is an area of particular interest to CCOM researchers because it is frequently used as test bed for commercial hydrographic sensor systems. Like the small-scale oceanographic observatory just mentioned, punching in a few key words or surfing the various research centers will reveal the diversity and the breadth of the research projects underway here at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at UNH. Check back often as new projects will be continually added.
