ECE Emeritus Prof. Albert D. Frost, Receives the ILA President's Award

At the recent International Loran Association (ILA) Al FrostConvention and Technical Symposium held in Groton CT, Dr. Albert D. Frost, Prof. (emeritus) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of New Hampshire, was the recipient of the President's Award for his outstanding service and contributions to Loran and the ILA.

Albert Frost brought creativity and professionalism to his nine years as Editor of Loran Lines, the official publication of the International Loran Association. Under his leadership Loran has consistently and accurately reported news of technical, management and policy events relating to Loran and to positioning, navigation and timing in general. His efforts have enhanced significantly the International Loran Association's objectives of informing and educating users, providers and governments throughout the world.

Membership of ILA includes engineers, scientists and administrators in the commercial, academic and military sectors concerned with precise position finding, navigation and high precision timing for aviation, terrestrial and maritime applications of all kinds. Recently, distribution of the Loran Lines has been extended to members of the Congress concerned with Department of Transportation, U.S. Coast Guard, the FAA and the Department of homeland Security. Of particular interest is the coverage of the rapid enhancement of USA Loran systems into a new generation of e-Loran and the expansion of Loran networks in Europe, Russia and Asia as a critical backup to satellite based navigation systems such as GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia) and the Galileo constellation planned by the European Community.
