UNH Internship Program Benefits the EPA nationwide ENERGY STAR Challenge
Durham - Together with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), UNH Pollution Prevention Internship Program works to help New England communities join the Nationwide Community Energy Challenge by benchmarking their town buildings and municipal facilities.
Chemical Engineering Professor Ihab Farag, who directs the Internship Program, said. "Our goal is to help these communities identify opportunities of Energy saving which will result in improved bottom line, cleaner environment, less dependence on imported oil, and more healthy communities.
EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson invited Farag and UNH Intern Adria Fichter (UNH Environmental Engineering junior) to be part of the program held last Thursday, July 17, as the town of Hull MA joined EPA's New England Community Energy Challenge. The Community Energy Challenge is part of the EPA nationwide ENERGY STAR Challenge.
Administrator Johnson congratulated Dr. Farag and Fichter on the work they are doing with Hull and the other communities. He said to Adria, "When I was in College I had a summer internship to support the Environment. I never imagined that it would lead to a call from the President of the United States to lead EPA."
