STUDY ABROADARROW

Who says science and engineering students can't study abroad? Or don't need to?

CEPS maintains exchange programs with universities in Budapest, Hungary; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. In addition, the UNH International Research Opportunities Program provides grants for students who want to do research abroad during the summer.

Opportunities open to UNH students:

Budapest, Hungary

The UNH/Budapest Academic Exchange program offers engineering and physical sciences students a rare opportunity to study abroad during their junior year for about the same price as a semester at UNH. Lost time toward graduation is avoided by offering courses juniors would normally study in their fall semester and assuring that credits are fully transferable. Courses at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics are taught in English.

Rome

Edinburgh, Scotland

UNH students in civil engineering are eligible to spend a semester at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. UNH is also one of the universities where Heriot-Watt students can spend their fifth year completing a master's in engineering degree. Civil engineering students interested in finding out more information can e-mail Prof. Bob Henry at robert.henry@unh.edu. Mechanical engineering students can e-mail Prof. Barbaros Celikkol celikkol@cisunix.unh.edu.

Mayaguez, Puerto Rico

UNH's exchange program with the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) at Mayaguez promotes academic exchange and joint research in engineering, physical sciences, marine sciences, remote sensing of natural resources, and cultural studies. Students may spend one or two semesters at UPR, while still maintaining their status as UNH students, paying UNH tuition, and being able to graduate from UNH on schedule. Participants must be proficient in Spanish. For more information, e-mail Paul DiNardo or call 862-3485.

Conducting Research Abroad

UNH students from any major can apply for a grant to pursue a research project abroad with the International Research Opportunities Program. Recipients spend 9 weeks doing research in a foreign country during the summer of their junior year. UNH students have conducted research in Costa Rica, France, Spain, Brazil, Hong Kong, Norway, Australia, England, Finland, Thailand, Tanzania, Honduras, Ecuador, Russia, Canada, and Ukraine.
