INTRODUCTION
This page provides concise statements of the College mission and vision, as well as brief articulation of our responsibilities (individual and collective) in pursuit of our mission. Additionally, included is the college level strategic plan actions items. For context it is relevant to state that the University of New Hampshire is a research university. The mission of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is to optimally attain the academic potential of a science and engineering college within a research university.
Mission:
Our mission (and vision) is to foster the highest aspirations of our students; our priority is the individual student within our college. We aspire to create graduates that will become the future innovators and protagonists in their respective fields. We seek to instill in our students a mastery of fundamental scientific principles sufficient to address the complex problems facing our world today and in the future. Our dedication to excellence in research and instruction serves this objective. We additionally seek to instill in our students a holistic and ethical awareness of their surrounding world, an appreciation for the value of cultural and intellectual diversity, and the ability to communicate effectively associated with realizing the highest meaning, relevance and value of their technical expertise.
Vision:
The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences aspires to create within its students the qualities articulated in our mission statement. Fully attaining this vision necessarily requires the active and appropriately balanced participation of every student, staff and faculty member. We seek to create a community of individuals, mutually dedicated to scholarly pursuits, and working in positively self-reinforcing ways in consonant service to the instruction, research and service components of the academic mission.
Academic Duty:
Our academic duties are associated with the pursuit of excellence, and are reflected by our work ethic, collegiality and scholarly contributions. Universities are uniquely positioned to effect societal change: one individual at a time via the transformational force of higher education. We respect this opportunity (and its attendant responsibilities) as a privilege. Attaining excellence requires practicing excellence; individually and collectively, in all we do and every day. We seek to inspire our students through the ingenuity, efficiency, generosity and sense of gratitude by which we deliver our academic responsibilities. Expecting an exemplary work ethic of each other earns us the privilege to credibly expect the same from our students. We are a collegial team, and measure the quality of our individual professional interactions by their capacity to complement the efforts of our co-workers within CEPS and the University. The stature of CEPS (and UNH) is reflected in the ability of our faculty and graduates to contribute to their respective fields. The highest potential of CEPS will be attained when we become wholly invested, both individually and collectively, in satisfying these duties to our mission.
